Embarking on a Journey of Nostalgia and Discovery: My Return to the Seas
As someone who has always been excited by the allure of travel and the open ocean, my latest journey brought a blend of familiar excitement and new adventures. This trip was not just about revisiting my past life as a crew member but embracing the luxury of being a guest on some of the most magnificent vessels sailing the seas. Let's dive into the details of this extraordinary journey from the skies to the waves. In fact, the last time I saw Celebrity Reflection was when I worked aboard her as an Activity Host at the beginning of my career in 2016.
A Luxurious Start at YYZ
My adventure began at Toronto's Pearson International Airport, where I indulged in the comfort and hospitality of the Maple Leaf Lounge. I’m so glad I have access with my Aeroplan Amex. The lounge experience was a perfect start to my journey, offering a moment of calm before the thrilling anticipation of boarding my flight with Air Canada on an Airbus A330. This aircraft is rare on a short haul flight like this, so I was more than excited to have the chance to fly aboard her.
When I first sat down the seat next to me was empty, and that continued through to when the Cabin Crew announced that the doors were closed. But alas, my seatmate was amongst one of the final passengers to board. He was a nice older gentleman who was headed to board the Eurodam.
A Frosty Departure
Before takeoff, our A330 made its way to the de-icing field – a necessary detour that ensured our safe and smooth departure. Watching the de-icing process is always a fascinating prelude to takeoff, a reminder of the intricate dance between technology and nature that allows us to soar. Soon enough we were in the sky as the sun began to rise.
Touchdown with a View and a Mission
Landing in Fort Lauderdale provided a fleeting glimpse of the Celebrity Reflection, a sight that filled me with anticipation. Yet, my adventure had an initial detour – a drive to Miami to behold the Icon of the Seas. Witnessing this marvel of maritime engineering was a mission I couldn't pass up, offering a glimpse into the future of cruising.
A Return to Familiar Waters
Upon returning to Fort Lauderdale, I boarded the Celebrity Reflection, a ship that feels more like a home than a vessel. Stepping aboard, the ship's pristine condition and familiar elegance enveloped me. It was a reunion with a cherished friend, one that has been meticulously cared for, retaining its beauty and grace through the years. Keeping in mind that the last time I was aboard her was in 2016 - she looked almost untouched.
My inside cabin awaited, a cozy retreat that boasted ample storage space and was in impeccable condition. It was the perfect sanctuary, combining comfort and functionality, a testament to Celebrity's attention to detail.
An Evening of Warm Welcomes and Nostalgic Reflections
The first night on board was marked by Cruise Director Dave's welcome aboard show. Watching another take the stage in a role I once held was a surreal experience, blending nostalgia with admiration for the talent that Celebrity brings to its guests.
The Solstice Class holds a special place in my heart, having worked on the Celebrity Silhouette, Equinox, Eclipse, and Reflection. These ships represent the pinnacle of cruise design and guest experience in my eyes, and I’m unapologetically biased towards them. Their elegance, innovation, and the warmth of the crew make each voyage unforgettable.
